I saw this beautiful Lotus Esprit at work today. The owner (not pictured) is a really cool guy who also owns a tastefully customized & Stormtrooper-ed 2014 Taurus SHO.
Clearly, he double parked on purpose. There are no other cars around. But I’m totally fine with it. Look at that thing! It’s a Bond car; it’s got pop-up headlamps; it’s sex on (color matching) wheels! And that got me thinking, is there a car that is okay to double park? Are there any vehicles that just get a ‘pass’ based on how cool they are?
Leave a comment and I’ll follow this up with a top ten “Double Park that M——- F——- Sideways” list.

No, but I’m not the type to sleep over bad parking. Except that one time.

I’m firmly of the opinion that double parking leads to a higher risk of parking vigilantes ‘teaching you a lesson’ by blocking you in or even vandalism. Normal parking near a curb/far away/whatever is always the better option for whatever you’re driving.

In an empty lot like that, it’s no harm no foul no matter what you drive. In a crowded lot it had better be something that was built by guys hand hammering metal, and then why would you be parking something like that in a crowded lot anyway?

In an empty lot, it doesn’t bother me, but it also serves no purpose. As soon as there is a purpose to serve (keeping others away) chances are the lot has filled up, and now it’s a douche move.
I do not believe there is an exception to double parking. It’s always a bad idea

I don’t do it, but I wouldn’t mind a car double parked on a less used parking lot. For example, my college campus has a massive undeground garage that very few people use because it’s a bit farther away from the hospital than the main parking lot. Double parking in the underground garage would hardly bother anyone, as there’s more than enough room for everyone who would park there, while double parking in the permanently crowded main parking lot would be a massive dick move, since patients and medical students use it for easier access to the hospital and you’d be hogging that access.

I would say no car at all. Double parking is only going to put you more at risk of getting vandalized anyway.
But maybe that’s just because I’ve never gotten a door ding that I’ve cared about.

Ferrari Testarossa, because it’s wider than most standard parking spots.

Nope.

Think it’s more about the parking lot vs the car. If you double park your nice car in 2 spots directly in front of a store, yeah you’re a douche. If you park your normal daily driver in 2 spots in the far corner of a parking lot that is hardly ever used, then it’s acceptable

I think it depends. If you're double parking close to the entrance or in a lot that is/will be very full then it doesn't matter if you're driving the very first Ferrari GTO, you're being an ass. If you're at the back of the lot and there's an abundance of spaces between you and the building then no problem.

Stay out of peoples way, or if it is so precious don’t park in public lots.

I do it all the time in work trucks, 16’ box trucks or bigger. But I’m not an ass about it and park near the rear of the lot, or where I can pull through from one lane to the other to get out easier.
